I understand that one of the keys to learning is for it to be engaging and enjoyable. The majority of the lessons are taught using activities and games, enabling the children to learn in a positive and active way. This method allows the children to concentrate for short bursts and then apply their learning in a practical and fun way. The children not only gain knowledge but also self-confidence to use it. The group lessons are for children from 2.5 years old.
We begin our circle time by introducing ourselves and singing our good morning song. We then move onto the days of the week, the weather and how we are feeling. I introduce our topic of the week and as a group we discuss our knowledge of the topic so far. We then follow on by reading a book, doing a group activity or playing a game related to the topic. During circle time I will also introduce our new phonics sound and we will practice speaking, reading and writing our letters and sounds.
Once we have finished circle time the children then have a choice of focused activities. These activities are freely available for the children to play with and are related to our current topic. The activities are set up to reinforce the children's previous learning from circle time but also encourage independent learning and experimentation.
